ACT GIVES BACK

THE BROAD STREET RUN: TEAM ACT #ACTAGAINST CANCER

On May 8, 2017 at 8:00am, runners, including those from Team ACT gathered for the annual Broad Street Run, a 10mile dash. Jeremy Hui, Jason Marcial and Jessica Marcial finished the race, got their medals but with that was the bigger honor of raising funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society. The team dubbed their race as an #ACTAgainstCancer and their cross to the finish line truly was. The team managed to surpass their fund goals through the website http://main.acsevents.org/goto/actagainstcancer which only proves that their ACT was not so little and was a true success! Good job finishers!

ACT Home Health Services would like to thank and congratulate the Team ACT Runners for a job well done on the race and on their quest, but cancer’s race to research and cure is never ending, continue to support and donate to the American Cancer Society, let’s continue the #ACTAgainstCancer.

ST. CHRISTOPHER’S HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN’S BACK-TO-SCHOOL CARNIVAL

CARNIVAL

Sponsored by the Center for Children & Youth with Special Health Care Needs, this event exudes joy and excitement not just for the children who attended but the parents that accompanied them too. ACT Home Health Services, Inc. joined this one day carnival held at the Light House Field across from the hospital to support it’s back-to-school purposes. Each child received a back pack from the Center for Children & Youth with Special Care Needs and they even joined in the fun with some of their doctors as the victims in the Dunk Tank game. Several other vendors were there including the very popular Mr. Softee ice cream truck! ACT also gave out our own goodies–back packs, bags, lunch bags and water bottles. With the perfect weather that day and the attendees in hundreds, this event was a true success!

VISION FOR EQUALITY

vfe

It is an honor for ACT to participate in the most recent “An Evening in Brazil” Annual Fundraiser held by Vision for Equality. Vision for Equality with a similarity to ACT was also founded by two women with a vision for change. VFE strongly believes that everyone belongs to the community. For over 15years Vision for Equality has advocated and gave an enormous support with people with disabilities throughout Pennsylvania. They provide direct monitoring services, peer counselors and campaigns for people with Intellectual Disabilities. Families have self-advocates that help and guide them allowing them to have an adequate living that is within the community.

Several of our patients are advocated by Vision for Equality and we are direct witnesses of how committed they are to their vision. Vision for Equality is also a multi-awarded agency recognized by their unwaivering efforts to help the families and people dealing with Intellectual Disability. The successful “An Evening in Brazil” Annual Fundraiser was a wonderful experience, meeting the different advocates of the VFE, their leaders and some of the families they have helped. Congratulations to it’s success!

KARINA COLON

HELP KARINA GET AROUND

Karina Colon has been part of the ACT family since 2008. Now, at 13 years old, Karina remains to be bed and wheelchair bound. “Princess Karina” as her sister would refer to her goes to several medical appointments throughout the month. Her mother, Sonia accompanies her in all of her medical appointments but has to travel via ambulance or transits at all times. Most recently, Sonia, started the campaign for Karina to get her own van to make her travel not only to her MD appointments much easier and faster but to also to make other activites such as going to parks or museums or simply just visiting family or friends much more possible. Please help Karina Get Around!

For your donations, please call Sonia, 267-307-2774 or send your donations to our office at 1121 South 11th Street, Philadelphia, PA. 19147.

SHARE YOUR HEART, HELP JONATHAN GET A VAN

Jonathan, a 10 year old boy travels daily to his school and to home from school for one and a half hours via school bus, in a day that is 3hours total. For Jonathan who is vented and is wheelchair bound, these 3hours are important and can most likely be used for much more enjoyable activities at home or outside. With his own van, his travel time can be cut to half or more and he can use his used to be travel time for things he can or will enjoy. Please help Jonathan and his family to reach his goal $20,000 for his very own van. Donate now! JONATHAN MARTINEZ VAN FUND
